Kenya, Africa 2017 Photo Safari
This momma cheetah has her eyes glued on distant prey. Her and her two juveniles had been unable to catch anything to eat in three days. This was not because they hadn't been trying - cheetahs hunt during the day but her and her youngsters were being relentless pursued by tour jeeps that interfered with their ability to successfully hunt. If they hunted at night, they would not have that issue - there is a curfew in the reserves. No vehicles can be moving around after dark except for the rangers. Violators are shot. This is an attempt to prevent poaching. Even as we watched from a distance, the cheetah started to run towards her intended prey and was cut off by a string of jeeps. Our guide was irate that they moved directly in her path to get a front view as she ran. Needless to say, she gave up her pursuit.Photo by Leah Bensen
